Programs come in a variety of formats for pre-Ks to college students. All involve some audience participation; most are designed to be performed within a regular class period, but can be expanded to 90 minutes. "Actions to Words/Words to Actions"a workshop in which participants use theater games to explore the sounds and rhythm of a Shakespeare text and create a performance of a selected text. It works well with any age, pre-K and up, regardless of students' reading ability or level of proficiency in English. "Shakespeare Shorts"a lecture/demonstration introducing aspects of Shakespeare's stagecraft, using scenes from different plays, sampling both Shakespeare's comic and dramatic styles. "Speaking the Speech: How An Actor Prepares"an actor shows how s/he prepares a soliloquoy or monologue for performance, searching for clues to characters within the text. Speeches are chosen in consultation with the teacher, and a performance of the speech concludes the presentation. "Let Shakespeare Be Your Guide"a workshop in which students stage a scene from a play, with Chicspeare's actors coaching them as they solve issues in performance and develop their own interpretation of the scene. Text is chosen in consultation with the teacher. |
